The Nunnehi have a way of showing us what we don’t want to see, doing for us what we can’t imagine. The Immortals. They are everywhere.

That’s what Timpoochee was thinking as he continued to gaze - at that eerie distance - on the scene unfolding before his eyes.

The Nunnehi, he thought. They are only here to help me. I must remember that.

They preserved forever the people of Anisgayayi as they fasted and prayed so long ago and when on that seventh day came the loud noise from the distant mountain top which grew louder and louder as it grew nearer.

The people of Anisgayayi were frightened beyond all belief as the ground under them shook with the thunderous sound all around them.

The Nunnehi lifted up the townhouse of the frightened people of Anisgayayi, away from the deafening noise and shaking earth and transported it to the top of Tsudayelunyi, above the head of Cheowa.

Timpoochee knew the place well, now preserved as solid rock as permanent and steadfast as the Nunnehi.

He was shaken from his thoughts by the elevated, bellicose voices of Panton and McGillivray, again distance but before his eyes.

“You have your warehouses, your customers,” shouted McGillivray. “I have a nation of uneducated people who need to be led to the eventual trough of the white man, like a pig is led to his pen.”
